Faculty Mentors

Summer Research: A Lasting Experience
Your experience at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute will have an impact both on you and your student. By being a faculty mentor, you will not only be gaining a better understanding of your field, but you will also provide direction and guidance to an undergraduate student. Working closely with the student, you will teach them the research skills they may one day need for graduate school or their careers.
You will have the opportunity to meet other research teams and collaborate with your colleagues from other schools. By mentoring a student, you will show that you are dedicated to student teaching.
In 2008, faculty from consortium institutions will have a new opportunity to conduct research at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute. The Institute is seeking proposals for research projects as part of the Faculty-in-Residence program. This programs enables a faculty member along with up to three student research assistants to conducts an intensive research project. The project would be expected to occupy 35-40 hours a week for 10-12 weeks.
Student researchers can come from the faculty's home institution or can be recruited from other consortium institutions. Each student researcher will receive a $3,000 stipend. The faculty advisor is eligible for up to a $6,000 stipend that can be used for time, supplies, travel, or other research support. Room and two meals daily would also be provided to the grantees by the Institute. The deadline for proposals is November 30. See the Faculty-in-Residence Application for guidelines.
